Alexander
Just finished watching Oliver Stone's "Alexander". I must say it is a mediocre attempt to capture the greatness of a truly great individual. The acting was atrocious to say the least, the only convincing character was that of Angelina Joile playing his mother....and OK i know that homosexualtiy prevailed in greek culture, but is that all that is to Alexanders story. Ther are better made movies over smaller men, and Stone's attempt at Nixon(the movie) was a far better one... I know it sounds a little lame especially since I watched the movie a year after its release(guess I'm too lazy to go to the theatre......) but if you havent seen the movie..dont agonise over it....

I never go to the theater either - and I've hated every Oliver Stone movie I ever saw, so I stopped seeing them. Clearly, you are a man of refined tastes.

Yeah, saw half of it and was bored. Adding on to Elf's point, there were a few of my friends who actually saw it in Tamil!
You must read the portrayal f Alexander in Moorcock books. he shows up in the tale of the eternal champion as the incarnation of the devil. I haven't seen the movie yet, in English, Hindi, or even, amazingly enough, in Tamil.
gosh tamil as well...I wonder what people saw in this movie that made them dub it in so many languages...

I have a question. In hindi Alexander is referred to as Sikander..do they have a similar name in Tamil also..
I know in the hindi dubbin they must have referred to Alexander as Sikander but what about characters like..Ptolemy or Hephaistion or Nearchus or Perdiccas..
just thinking of their names in hindi amuses me...

'Alexander' sucked, but i wouldn't go so far as making a sweeping statement that Oliver Stone sucks..
have you watched 'Platoon', 'The Doors' or 'Natural Born Killers'?? - those should do a pretty thorough job of making you view his career a bit more objectively.
